Whenever I throw a holiday get-together for family and friends, I like to add a handcrafted touch made especially for that event. This month I’m sharing some ideas for quick, easy 4th of July crafts for table decorations to display on a picnic or dinner table. Using 12×12-inch scrapbook paper or plain red, white, and blue art paper, you can create a disposable table runner, napkin rings, and swizzle sticks for drinks. They’re fun to create, and bright custom-made decor adds an especially festive note to your entertaining. Party on!

Materials for 4th of July Crafts

  • 4th of July craft templates
  • printer
  • cardstock
  • sharpened pencil
  • paper in various reds, whites, and blues (plain sheets and/or 12×12-inch patterned scrapbook sheets, such as double-sided scrapbook paper)
  • legal-size paper
  • regular scissors
  • heavy-duty kitchen scissors
  • bamboo skewers
  • glue stick

How to Make 4th of July Fireworks Swizzle Stick

  1. Print the craft template onto cardstock.
  2. Stack two sheets of patterned paper. Place the template over the area you want to see in the finished work. Trace with a pencil.
  3. Cut out triangles carefully along the lines through both sheets, all the way to the ends. (If the triangular slots are too short, the fireworks shape won’t align.)
  4. Cut a deep slit (through both sheets) into the center of the fireworks shape (watch the instructional video for details on how to cut the fireworks shape for this craft).
  5. Using heavy-duty kitchen scissors, snip just the tip of the blunt end of the bamboo skewer. Then run the blades up the skewer, splitting it along the grain, about 3 inches.
  6. Rotate the skewer 90 degrees and repeat. The goal is to split the end of the skewer into 4 equal parts; it’s a little tricky, and you might break a few before you get the hang of it. Luckily, the skewers for this craft are inexpensive!
  7. Now take one of the paper fireworks shapes and feed it, uncut side first (that is, the side opposite the deep, narrow slit), into one of the splits you made in the skewer.
Take the second piece of paper and feed it, narrow slit first, at a 90-degree angle into the narrow slit in the first paper and the second split in the skewer at the same time. (watch the video for details on how to attach the fireworks shape to the bamboo skewer).

How to Make 4th of July Star Napkin Ring

  1. Print the template onto cardstock.
  2. Place the template over the area of paper you want to see in the finished work. Trace with a pencil.
  3. Cut carefully along the lines, all the way to the ends. (If the slots are too short, the star won’t align.)
  4. Wrap the napkin ring into a circle and feed the slots together.
  5. As a personal touch, write a guest’s name on each star.
