It’s about the journey, not the destination and when it comes to bean holes that is certainly the case. In this season 4 segment of Weekends with Yankee (episode 404), Amy travels to Cape Neddick, Maine, to make a traditional Maine bean hole with Justin and Danielle Walker, owners of Walkers Restaurant. A bean hole is as simple as it sounds. A big pot is placed above a fire nestled in a hole in the ground. The beans cook there for hours with pork, onions, molasses, and brown sugar. Amy helps set the table for a feast and gets to try those delicious beans that carry the taste of New England. The traditional bean hole reminds us that it’s the simple act of making a meal with friends that is often the most rewarding.
