The waiting is over, and the judges have chosen the winner of Yankee Magazine‘s 2011 Winter Photo Contest. Congratulations to David Stone for taking the winning photograph of the Iced-In Canoe in Ipswich, MA! We asked David to tell us the story behind the photograph: “The Ipswich River is an easy walk from my house, and I often wander down there with camera in hand to see what it has to offer. The canoe had been there through the summer and fall, and in early December when the ice was forming in the river. The light was very nice on what was a very cold early December morning and I took 2 single shots of the canoe, one horizontal and one vertical. I liked the feel of the horizontal one better and processed it in Photoshop CS4 for the final image. I’m happy to say that the canoe was moved to the safety of the shore not too long after I photographed it and is resting comfortably.” View the five photographs that made it into the finals for our 2011 Winter Photo Contest.
