Along the well-worn paths that lead from the Steamship Authority and Hy-Line ferry docks on the island of Nantucket sits Fresh, a specialty food shop run by fresh-faced college kids ready to hand you a sandwich on your way to the beach bus or the taxi line.
But these are no mere sandwiches. They’re seasonally inspired gems, such as hearty lobster rolls, filled with big chunks of sweet and briny knuckles and claws tossed gently in a lemony dill mayo, or the “scrimshander,” tuna salad bright with capers and vaguely salty with olives on sourdough.
If your island plans require more than a daytripper’s lunch, the folks at Fresh can stock your summer place with a fine selection of cheeses, dips, pates, charcuterie, salads, produce, and seafood. If your time on the island includes entertaining, call ahead and they’ll put together your appetizers or just about everything you’ll need for a barbecue.
