With its gardens, greenhouses, resident animals, and gifts of every kind, Snug Harbor Farm in Kennebunk, Maine, is well worth the stop.

Why Snug Harbor Farm is One of the Most Magical Places in Maine

“Driving along Route 9 in Kennebunk, you almost pass Snug Harbor Farm before you catch an intriguing glimpse of an outbuilding or pony grazing and a little bit of magic occurs.”

This passage from the Snug Harbor Farm website is pretty much spot-on. Pull over to browse the perennials, and you’ll soon discover this is no ordinary country garden center, but rather a garden wonderland complete with five greenhouses, a nursery, a barn, pastures, growing fields, a colorful shop, and resident animals that include poodles, ponies, and peacocks.

Here’s a look at my June 2017 visit to Snug Harbor Farm.

First, stop to admire the view of the Snug Harbor Farm ponies chilling in their very own pasture.

I spent a solid 15 minutes just taking it all in and resisting the urge to fill my basket with goodies.

I also tried to resist the urge to take 100 photos. As you might guess, I failed.

Say hello to the ducks and Canada geese. Note: they may not want to say hello to you. Don't take it personally. Go back to those speckled hens that can't resist your gaze.

  1. I love yankee magazine and have been subscribing to it for many years, now that I can’t travel to far like I used to, I wish there were more articles on Massachusetts and Connecticut, places more easily for me to access.

  2. I have been a Yankee subscriber for many years, even though I moved from MA to upstate NY in 1980. I still enjoy reminiscing about the many places my late husband and I visited. I read each issue of Yankee as soon as soon as it arrives, as well as New England today on line. Keep the article coming.

  3. I must visit SNUG HARBOR FARM, I HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT AND I SUMMER CLOSE BY, THANK YOU. ENJOY YOUR BLOGS
