The town is home to an admirable variety of places to stay — from quiet, romantic inns to busy, skier-packed hotels — all of which feature classic New England charm, of course. For the outdoorsy type, Jackson’s location can’t be beat: Skiing and snowshoeing are an everyday option in winter, while hiking is the activity of choice in the summer. With all that in mind, here are a few of our favorite things to do in Jackson, NH.
Things to Do in Jackson, NH
Jackson Ski Touring Foundation
The Jackson Ski Touring Foundation maintains nearly 100 miles of trails throughout Jackson and the White Mountain National Forest. It keeps most of the trails — which range in difficulty from beginner to expert — well-groomed and ready for snowshoeing, classic track skiing, or skate skiing. Feel free to bring your own equipment or rent it from the foundation’s base lodge, where day passes are also available for purchase. And for beginners, skiing lessons are readily available.

Nestlenook Farm
With a huge Victorian skating pond and 65 acres of trails for horse-drawn sleighs, Nestlenook Farm is the perfect place to spend a winter’s day outdoors. The Victorian estate is a favorite among families and couples, who may enjoy a cheery afternoon skate, a romantic evening sleigh ride, or a peaceful snowshoe through the woods.
Mount Washington Auto Road
A drive up Mount Washington is an experience that sticks with you for life (as does the complimentary “This Car Climbed Mount Washington” bumper sticker). For passengers, it’s the breathtaking views that will never be forgotten; for drivers, it’s the sheer terror of driving nearly 8 miles up a narrow, guardrail-free mountain road. Needless to say, the Mount Washington Auto Road is not for the faint of heart — but it’s nevertheless an experience worth every hair-raising minute. The road is open from May to October, weather permitting, though you also can ascend the mountain by way of SnowCoach in winter. Alternatively, you can summit via the Cog Railway in Bretton Woods, which offers a slightly less nerve-racking experience and fantastic views during peak fall foliage.

Wildcat Mountain
Wildcat Mountain’s enormous peak is located directly across the valley from the even more enormous Mount Washington — a location that presents skiers with unrivaled views of lovely White Mountain vistas. The mountain boasts 48 trails of varying difficulty, as well as New Hampshire’s longest novice trail (2.75 miles). Another feature of Wildcat is its partnership with nearby Attitash Mountain Resort, which lets visitors ski two mountains for the price of one!

the Wentworth appears to be conspicuously absent from this article?
Hi there. This post includes a collection of our favorites things to do and places to eat and stay in Jackson, but there are certainly other worthy contenders! You’ll find the Wentworth included in our post on Where to Stay in Jackson, NH (https://newengland.com/today/travel/new-hampshire/white-mountains/where-to-stay-in-jackson-new-hampshire-hotels-inns/). It was also the recipient of a 2017 Yankee Editors’ Choice Award for “Best New Hampshire Country Hotel.” Thanks, and have a great day!
You missed a great place for Grinders or Pizza Kringles I just looked and it is actually in Glenn but it is about 1/4 mile from Jackson well worth a stop.
Jackson Falls and the Christmas Farm Inn for dinner 🙂
I was thinking the same thing. What a faux pas. The Wentworth Inn is the only place we will stay! They have the best food in town as well. 🙂
The SnowFlake Inn is absolutely terrific. The whole area is nice. There’s also a neat little Country Store called Flossies right by the Honeymoon Covered Bridge. Everything on this list is spot on. Red Fox & Yesterdays are our “Go-To’s” when we’re up in Jackson.
The Riverwood Inn is a wonderful place to stay…outstanding breakfast!
How could you forget the Christmas farm Inn? This is a great place to go in any season . The owners Gary and Sandra couldn’t be more Pleasant and accommodating . The housekeeping staff does a great job . Breakfast every day is wonderful And the dinners are great as well . We stayed there a few weeks ago because we we trust that they would do a great job in cleaning and protecting casts due to the Covid . This was our first virus getaway and we were not disappointed !
We have visited all the Inns in Jackson. The Wentworth Inn definitely is definitely a destination. Ellie Koeppel is one of the most gracious, knowledgeable, humorous innkeeper I know. We love her.
Pet friendly logging?
Whitney’s Inn has pet friendly rooms and cottages. Stayed there last fall with our 2 Shiba Inus. Very comfortable stay, plenty of area to walk our dogs.
Went to Jackson, NH for Thanksgiving vacaction, stayed at Christmas Inn, participatied in the hot chocolate follies and had a wonderful sleigh ride at Nestlenook Farms through the center of Jackson and stopping at different places for chocolates and goodies. It snowed so it was perfect! Had a wonderful Thanksgiving buffet at the Red Fox Bat & Grille and visited Santa’s Village. It was a great vacation for my family and especially my granddaughter.
Betty-Ann * Christmas Farm Inn
Christmas Farm Inn is the Best! So homey & comfortable; staff is bar none the Best & Sandra & Gary are very accommodating & know what it takes to give each guest the feeling that they are family & VIP’s! Love my Home Away From Home!!! ❤️ You Guy’s!
Christmas Farm Inn is the best. Staff is friendly and make every effort to create a wonderful experience. The dining room is so homey and the food is divine! The best vacation destination to be had. We return every year.
Absolutely check out the Thompson House Eatery in Jackson….the food and atmosphere are top drawer!!
All of NH is just a beautiful and an enjoyable place to live or vacation.
I am not sure how you could overlook the Thompson House Eatery (THE) or the Shovel Handle Pub as places to dine. THE is a farm to table eatery that hosts a farmers market and is loved by locals and tourists.
Don’t forgot the wonderful Wildcat Inn & Tavern- in warmer weather start with a cocktail out in their beautiful perennial gardens, dinner on the porch- sometimes have twin lobster as a Tuesday special- delicious! Lovely atmosphere! On the right after you cross the charming covered bridge!
Not sure how Thompson House Eatery could be overlooked. One of the best restaurants in the northeast.
Agree to many more to add to the Jackson list – definitely Thomas House Eatery, Christmas Farm Inn, Wenstorth, Autumn Nomad, White Mountain Puzzle, the General Store, and of course Black Mountain [Wildcat is not in Jackson – up the road a few miles.].
