Best Cider Donuts in New England
Atkins Farm | Amherst, MA
Made by hand using a recipe that includes the farm’s own apple cider, the cider donuts at Atkins Farm are the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. A coating of cinnamon-sugar seals the deal.
B. F. Clyde’s Cider Mill | Old Mystic, CT
B. F. Clyde’s is a popular spot to stock up on both sweet and hard apple cider (they’re the oldest steam-powered cider mill in the country), but you don’t want to miss the homemade apple cider donuts. They’re perfectly moist and sweet with a cinnamon-sugar coating.
Cold Hollow Cider Mill | Waterbury Center, VT
Located just outside the Green Mountain tourist town of Stowe, Cold Hollow Cider Mill uses fresh-pressed apple cider and their heavenly apple cider doughnuts to satisfy a year-round stream of visitors. Made fresh daily, the donuts at Cold Hollow come unadorned, allowing their big apple flavor to truly shine.
Rocky Ridge Orchard | Bowdoin, ME
Sweet and sugar-coated, the cake cider donuts at Rocky Ridge Orchard are a Midcoast Maine favorite. While you munch, pick up some of the farm’s apples, sweet cider, whoopie pies, or other tasty Maine treats like homemade pickles and local cranberries.
Russell Orchards | Ipswich, MA
The made-from-scratch cider donuts at Russell Orchards in Ipswich have the farm’s own cider (made from the farm’s own apples) right in the batter, giving them their terrific flavor. It’s also a lot of fun watching them go from batter to fryer to your waiting paper bag.
Facebook Fan Favorites:
- Becky G.: Lapsley Orchard in Pomfret, CT, has wonderful cider donuts. Very flavorful but not overly sweet. You can really taste the cider. I’ve had many cider donuts that are just sweet with no cider flavor.
- Sarah S.: Red Apple Farm in Phillipston, MA, is the BEST!
- Kelley L.: Windy Ridge Orchard in North Haverhill, NH, has the best cider donuts!
- Mary F.: Pakeen Farm in Canton, MA. They are small, almost like munchkins. They are made to order so they are super fresh and warm.
- Sheila L.: Cider Hill Farm in Amesbury, MA, has the absolute best cider donuts ever!!!
- Francine P.: Burt’s Orchard in Cabot, VT. Best cider donuts and cider. Donuts are fresh from the old farmhouse across the road. Can’t get any more VT than that!

My favorite apple cider donuts are at Smolak Farm, North Andover. They come plain, cinnamon, and my favorite, rolled in sugar
The Rogers Famous Donuts at Equinox Valley Nursery Pumpkin Patch Manchester Vt. were voted the best in New England by the tour bus drivers. The special secret ingredients along with a bit of crunch are unforgettable!
Equinox Valley Nursery with Chef Roger are the very best. It’s an experience with their Fall decorations, famous pumpkin patch and clever scarecrows. Don’t forget your camera.
Cider Hill Farm, Amesbury MA are delicious!
Yes, theirs are yummy!
Agree on Cider Hill Farm. People are in line for hours waiting to buy them
I agree! You will want to eat more than one. Watch them being made. Eat it warm. Yum!
Bolton Spring Farm, Bolton, Ma make the best cider donuts
The best in NH are Cider Bellies – you can find them at a food truck in the parking lot of the I-93 N Rest Stop past the tolls and their original location at Moulton Farm in Meredith. They’re the best cider donuts I’ve ever eaten!
Amen Margaret!
Can’t forget The Red apple Farm in Phillipston, MA- they beat Bolton Orchard out by a a smidge – nice that they head to Boston’s SOHO to bring their country flavor to our urban cousins!! ?
Best cider donuts I’ve ever had are from the Chichester General Store in Chichester, NH. Yummy!
The cider donuts at the Red Apple Farm in Phillipston Ma have more apple cider taste than those at Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Love them. I cannot speak for the other places mentioned.
Brooksby Farm. Peabody Ma. Made right before your eyes inside the store. I dare you NOT to try one with the aroma in the air! Cheaper by the dozen!
The BEST apple cider donuts are found at the Allen Holme Farms in South Hero, Vermont.
My son’s first year of college took him to South Carolina not realizing his favorite food was left behind in New England-Cider Donuts. Recently sent him an order of cider donuts from Cold Hollow Cider Mill!! He was very surprised how fresh and delicious they were even after shipping!! Thanks Cold Hollow! Will be ordering again.
Sorry folks but the best apple cider donuts in Vermont are made daily at Allen Brothers in Westminister. I have attempted to eat Cold Hollow donuts on several occasions , but always return to Allen Brothers.
My favorite apple cider donuts are from Tender Crop Farm at the Red Barn in Dover, NH. They are baked daily, year-round. They serve them plain, sugar- topped and my favorite, cinnamon- sugar-topped. They are all moist and delicious.
Can’t get to them in the east, but our favorites are at the
Franklin Cider Mill in Franklin, Michigan!
Plasko Farm in Trumbull, CT has my vote for the BEST cider donuts I’ve ever had!
Best cider donuts in York County, Maine are at Chase Hill Farms in Wells on the North Berwick Rd (Route 9): plain, cinnamon sugar, or maple frosted – made on site and fresh every day! Lots of fresh pastries and Chase Farm vegetables, too!
Just as you enter Bennington VT.,the best cider doughnuts are at the Apple Barn.
Made right there along with mile high Apple pie..
You’ve got to try the donuts at Windy Ridge Orchards in Haverhill NH. They are melt-in-your-mouth fantastic!
AGREED!! The best!!
Can’t decide between Cider Hill Farm and Red Apple Farm for my personal favorites. Both taste like fresh apple cider and both are available without sugar coating which is the way I like them.
Technically not in New England (but on the outer edge), is Golden Harvest Farms
in Valatie, NY (just outside Albany, NY). My wife and me have sampled cidar donughts throughout New England, and Golden Harvest has simply the best we’ve ever had. And yipee! – they’re only miles from our home.
If you’re traveling through Upstate NY this fall (towards New England on Interstate 90 eastbound), be sure to take Exit 12 (Hudson) and it’s just a few miles down the road on Route 9). You’ll be glad you did!
Smolak Farm, North Andover MA, definitely. Warm. To die for.
If you can’t get to a farmstand Market Basket has excellent cider donuts. Box of 4 for $2.99.
I was born and raised in Amherst, Mass., and Atkins has to be the standard by which all cider doughnuts are compared! Simply awesome … for all generations of my family!
Apple Cider Donuts at Marini Farm, Ipswich…. THE BEST!
Read their ingredients. Same for Red Apple Farm. Tons of preservatives and artificial flavors/colors. Hardly worth the calories if you’re looking for farm stand quality.
The cider donuts at Moulton Farm in Meredith, New Hampshire are simply scrumptious! They make a wonderful breakfast treat!
Cider Belly donuts at Moulton Farm, Meredith, NH are the best!
Moulton Farms in Meredith, NH absolutely the best!!!❤️
Cider Hill Farm, Amesbury MA
Cider Hill Farms in Amesbury Ma gets my vote. It’s a pleasure to not only watch the donuts being made but to watch the expressions on the faces of the little ones who are watching them being made as well. The farm has grown so much over the years making it a must family visit. Its become a second generation family year round trips for us.
I agree with the Atkins Farm choice! I had my first cider donut from there when I went to Hampshire College in the late 1980s. They’re so good, I continue that tradition whenever I’m in the area!
The Apple Barn in Bennington VT makes great cider donuts!!
I love the apple barns donuts, especially when warm!
I am sure all of these places are great but you really have to try the ones at Pakeen Farm in Canton. They are small, more the size of a munchkin and sell them by the bag. They make each individual order right then so they are very warm and tender. They are out of this world!
Bishop orchards in Guilford Ct has amazing cider donuts. They are my favorite, I can eat them until I can’t move, then eat some more!
A friend in college who was from Guilford and had worked at Bishop’s would often bring back apples for us all to enjoy. I finally got to visit there myself many years later.
Um… Mrs Murphys Donuts in Southwick, MA are still the best I have ever tasted. Texture, flavor, appearance…. People line up for them daily! They deserve to be on this list! Have been around since the 1970s.
Mrs. Murphy’s in Southwick, MA are the best.. big treat at work was donuts every Friday.
Tangerinni’s in Millis!
Donuts from the Big Apple in Wrentham, MA are delicious too!
The Best we have ever had are at Meadowledge farm in London. The line is out the door every weekend. I am living in Virginia now but am so homesick for NH that one of my hobbies is trying to perfect my own cider doughnut recipe. Mine are good but Meadowledge’s are wicked good!!!
Yes, Equinox Valley Nursery in Manchester, VT!! They use Hick’s Orchard Cider (No. Granville, NY)! You can also just make it over to Hick’s Orchard itself! The apple aroma is amazing! Freshies are the best! Hick’s ships once a week!!
Surprised to see Clyde’s Cider Mill here. Before they were “discovered”, their donuts were homemade. Now that the masses have been visiting this place each fall, they are buying apples from outside of New England to use in their cider press (you can see the stickers on them as they pour from the truck into the press), and, most disappointingly, using store-bought donuts shaken with some cinnamon and sugar and selling them as “homemade” cider donuts. We live right down the road from this place and we were very disappointed to see these changes in the last couple of years. Happy that the owners are having success, but they’re sacrificing quality and authenticity for it.
hmm….Not sure I agree about the “store bought” donuts…..I was there this morning and saw them in the back room dropping dough into hot oil…
Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel, Ct. gets my vote. YUM!
Breezeland Orchard in Warren, Ma. Has an AMAZING shop with killer Cider Donuts & they are super nice people !!!! GOOOOOO THERE !!!!
Applecrest orchards in Hampton Falls NH and Rowe’s House of Apples in Newport Maine are 2 of my favorite
Places
The best cider donuts ANYWHETE are located at Windy Ridge Orchard in North Haverhil,NH. I travel thete ftom Ohio every year and bring back multiple dozens to freeze and enjoy until the next uear. They freeze well and taste like fresh. Their cider is the best as well.
Jann, agree 100%!!!! Windy Ridge Cider Donuts are the BEST!!
FADDY’S DINUTS are the very best. I have tried many places. None compare with FADDY’S…
Find them at Cabela’s, East Hartford, CT
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You’ve had the rest, now try the best! Moulton Farms in New Hampshire. Best donuts Evah!!
Best apple cider donut ever. Great apple flavor.
Gotta get there early before they sellout, so yummy.
Cider Bellies Donuts at Moulton Farm in Meredith, NH are the best!
I just had 2 delicious apple cider donuts at Lakeside Diner in Stamford, CT. They are available year-round!
Don’t forget the apple cider donuts at Pizzi Farm in Waltham, MA!????????????☕️
Nothing smells more like fall than the fresh scent of Apple cider donuts at Pizzi Farm in Waltham, MA. Hot and delicious is just an understatement of good they are. Check it out for yourself. You will thank me!!
The best are at Libby and sons in limerick, Maine worth the ride ????
Pizzi Farm in Waltham!! By far the BEST apple cider donuts. I make the trip from Chelmsford for them. http://pizzifarm.com/
The absolute best Cider Donuts I have ever tasted are at Bartletts Orchards in Richmond, MA.
Bartletts is the best place for cider and donuts. I have driven all over New England sampling donuts from Cold Hollow in VT to Clyde’s in RI to Rogers (Fritter donuts) in CT, and while these are on my top ten list, it is Bartletts that wins. PreCovid we used to put out dozens of Bartletts donuts every Wednesday in the library for students at a local community college and they were gone in a half hour. I have even shipped them overnight to family in Colorado. They are the best!
Smolak Farm (North Andover) has the best donuts. Choose sugared, cinnamon or plain.
Smolak Farms in North Andover has the best donuts!! The best variety of plain, glazed, sugar or sugar and cinnamon. Hot off the machine they melt in your mouth!
I agree. Smolak’s are the best
Allen Bros. In Westminster, VT has the best cider donut ever! Every time I try a cider from somewhere else, I am disappointed. Warm and fresh every morning!
Berlin Orchards in Berlin, MA
Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stow, MA has the best apple cider donuts around!
I grew up a quarter mike from Cold Hollow Cider Mill, when you could actually get a warm cider donut they were delish!! But by far Moulton Farms in New Hampshire by far are the best ever!!
C’mon “New England” Today, did Rhode Island fall off the Map? Apple land Orchard in Greenville, RI and Phantom Farms in Cumberland have wonderful Apple Cider Donuts!
Exactly ! How disappointing that you didn’t bother to seek out Rhode Island apple farms to find cider donuts !!
I agree, can’t believe not one mention of Rhode Island. Last weekend we had some hot, fresh cider donuts from Appleland.
I have had Cold Hollow Cider donuts and Red Apple Farm’s. The Red Apple Farm’s have a bit more apple cider flavor. Love them
I’m partial to Cider Bellies in Meredith, NH!
These are the best!
Whitney’s Farm Market and Country Gardens on Route 8, 1755 South State Road in Cheshire MA gets our vote for apple cider donuts.
Bartlett’s Orchard in Richmond MA. They have their own Cider donuts and muffins. Sooo good. Can’t wait for this Covid crisis to get over with so I can travel home again to Massachusetts
I second your nomination! Our family has been enjoying Bartletts for three generations and has tried many others throughout southern New England. There are none better
I’m surprised no one mentioned Applecrest Farm Orchards in Hampton Falls, N.H. There’s are wonderful!
While I hope to try the donuts at the places listed above, my favorites have always been from Bushy Hill (now Clark Farms at Bushy Hill Orchard) in Granby, CT. The smell is divine and you will not be able to resist buying (or eating) at least one!
Grew up in Wmass and the annual trip(s) to Atkins were expected and looked forward to. I live in central mass now but still try and make a trip there every year.
If you’re willing to go a little farther north than Atkins in Amherst, the best cider donuts in western Mass. are at Hager’s Farm Market (and orchards) on Rte 2 in Shelburne Falls or at Pine Hill Orchard just up the road in Colrain. Both are excellent!
The North Hadley Sugar Shack on route 47 is my favorite place for plain cider donuts,
I neglected to add MA to my comment. Sorry.
Does anyone make great Cider Donuts in
Camden Maine?
Donut Dip Riverdale Rd West Spfld. Ma. not only cider donuts but great variety,
Mounting Farm Meredith NH by far
It’s Moulton Farm in Meredith and theirs are called “cider belly” and they are by far the best I’ve had ANYWHERE in New England
Woodstock Orchards in Woodstock, CT has the best made-while-you-watch cider donuts, I’ve ever had. The only ones better were made by the long since closed Westview Orchards in Plainfield, CT.
Hard-Pressed Cider in Jamestown, RI.
I always get cider donuts at Hilltop Orchards in Richmond Mass. whenever I’m in the Berkshires. Best donuts I’ve had anywhere. (They also make cider and wine there.)
