Not a pie in the traditional sense but a combination of pie, crisp, and cobbler. Serve à la mode. –The Black Bear, Richmond, Vermont
3 to 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup nuts
1 cup flour
1 egg
Pinch of salt
Fill buttered 9-inch pie pan two-thirds full of apples. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, Combine remaining ingredients in bowl and spoon over apples. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until golden. Serve with Cinnamon Cream Sauce (recipe follows).
1-1/2 cups sugar
2/3 cup light corn syrup
1/3 cup water
1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
2/3 cup evaporated milk
Bring sugar, corn syrup, water, and cinnamon to a boil over medium heat. Boil 4 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes. Stir in evaporated milk. Serve warm over pie.
