Strawberry Fritters

Although it’s hard to improve upon the flavor of fresh strawberries, here’s an old-fashioned recipe that makes an unusual breakfast treat. Raspberries, currants. or blackberries can also be used.

Yield

Serves 4.

Ingredients

2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pint whole strawberries, washed and hulled

Instructions

Combine all ingredients except strawberries and mix well. Stir in strawberries, being careful not to mash them. Drop spoonfuls of batter (with an individual berry in each spoonful) into hot fat and fry until golden. To serve, stack fritters in pyramid shape and sift sugar over the tops.
