9 – 1″ thick slices french bread (3×5″)
5 large eggs
1 tsp dijon mustard
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups half and half
2 cups packed shredded sharp cheddar
1/2 red pepper – cut into strips
15 halved cherry tomatoes
6 oz smoked kielbasa (or other sausage) – cut into 1/2″ cubes
2 tbsp minced onion
chopped fresh parsley
butter 13x9x2″ glass baking dish. Fit in 8 slices of bread. cut last slice into cubes and fit into empty spaces. whisk eggs, mustard, basil and salt in bowl – whisk in half and half. Ladle atop bread. Cover; chill at least two hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 350deg – Sprinkle with black pepper. Top w/half cheese – peppers, toms, sausage and remainder of cheese. Cover loosely with foil. Bake 20 minutes 0 remove foil, bake until strata is set and springy to touch about 20 minutes longer. cool 5 minutes – sprinkle with parsley
