In this season 7 segment of Weekends with Yankee (episode 702), Richard is in the seaport of Mystic, Connecticut, to learn about the town’s maritime history. Richard meets Jay Salvatore, Captain of the Osprey, and joins him at sea for some early morning fishing. Then, at the Mystic Seaport Museum, Richard rows out on a classic dory, traditionally used as a fishing vessel. He hops on board the Roann, one of the last surviving examples of an Eastern Rig Dragger, and learns what it takes to man a ship in centuries past. Back on land, he heads to Buckingham Hall to try a cod chowder recipe from the 19th century, an oldie but a goodie.
