Ever dreamed of owning a historic bed and breakfast? One of the most historic and distinctive properties in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts, the Old Mill Inn in Hatfield, is looking for a new owner. Here’s what you need to know:
Overlooking the dam on Mill River, the Old Mill has been in service as an inn since 2006. In its current configuration, it features nine guest rooms, three suites, and an owners’ quarters. Before its current life as an inn, it has served as a gristmill, a machine shop, a gun factory, and a newspaper office. The king-size bed and extra-large bathroom are two of the Lily Pond Room’s many charms. Here, the mill’s original post-and-beam construction can be seen. Basically a large studio apartment, the Miller’s Suite has all the comforts of home, including a fully equipped kitchen, a queen bed and a fold-out sofa, and a deck with a great view of the river. With a king-size canopy bed and a beautiful view of the river, it’s a favorite for couples looking for a romantic getaway. As a business, it remains busy, with rooms often booked as much as a year in advance during peak seasons in May and October. The fact that the breeze from the river keeps the wind chimes outside the windows tinkling is a nice touch, too. There’s an Elm Suite, which will nestle you among the branches, and a Reading Room, perfectly situated for quiet contemplation or a good page-turner. Wanna guess what the appeal of the Waterfall Room is?
