“Ice Out” Celebrations

Wow! All these photos stir in me a desire to get back to the land of my childhood! I could taste the apples at Allyson’s, smell the mountain air, etc. I miss New England so much! But, like so many of us transplants, at a certain age, finances do not allow for travel back home. ): That is why Yankee means so, so much to me!
You couldn’t have said it better Trish. I miss New England so much. We play the lottery every week hoping for a miracle. Even have the house I want picked out in New Hampshire. Thank God for Yankee magazine, the pictures and articles take me back in time to the greatest place on earth.
I grew up in Pennsylvania (the Poconos), and knew where New England was located. Then my boyfriend (later husband) began inviting me to attend special weekends at Dartmouth. Much later, our daughter & family lived in Massachusetts for 25 years; one son & family live in Connecticut (now 20+ years); granddaughter a senior in Connecticut University; her brother a sophomore at Keene College, NH; another granddaughter graduating from a Boston college. My late husband and I vacationed at Boothbay Harbor, Maine (Tugboat Inn is best place to stay) for many years (I, a few years after his death) and even made a good lifelong friend there. Jim & I explored everywhere: LLBean, Wyeth historic locations, Augusta, etc., etc. We lived – I still do – in the southwestern-most part of New York state, but am now a bit too old (called senior citizen) to drive to New England, however, YANKEE magazine keeps me posted every time it arrives. Each month, something I remember appears; that helps my fondness for those New Englanders. Merry Christmas to them and may each and every New Year bring me YANKEE magazine.
Even though I was raised a Jerseyite, I have always loved New England and still remember my few times of going there, almost 60 years ago and 53 years ago. you never forget it! I live in TX now, and it cannot compare for me to NJ and NE! Bless all your hearts who came from there and long to go back!
