  1. Canadians eat maple walnut ice cream all the time. It is a very common flavour. My fiance, who is from Maryland, had never heard of it. Interesting how divided the people are in the United States, even when so close together. Great recipe. I will be giving it a shot.

  2. This sounds wonderful. Definitely will try. My cousins own Bascom Maple Syrup Farms so I Fell a connection to NE

  3. Maple walnut was my grandmother’s favorite flavor. Every time we went out for ice cream, that is what she ordered! I love it, too! It’s hard to find in the Midwest/south. Thanks for this recipe.

  4. This is a very good recipe, but I would suggest making it the traditional New England way with American black walnuts instead of using English walnuts. This recipe calls for walnut halves, which means that they are using English walnuts. Black walnuts have much more flavor than English walnuts. Shelled black walnuts are available online for anyone who does not live in New England.

I also use black walnuts when I make maple walnut pie, and it makes a big difference.

    1. Regarding black walnuts, they’re hard to come by. The last time I saw a black walnut tree was in the late 50’s. I believe it’s more a southern thing here on the east coast? This is probably a special order item. Have not seen this in local grocery stores. I remember one of my favorite cakes my mom made was a black walnut!
