Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day? If so, here’s an adorable Valentine’s Day Garland you can make to hang in your home or office.  The garland is made of simple materials and can be disassembled for easy storage. You can even remove the cards as needed to give to others for a Valentine’s Day surprise.  The clothespins hold the cards onto the garland which means you can remove the cards easily.  I’m enjoying this garland so much I might keep it up year round.

Materials to Make a Valentine’s Day Garland

  • Blank artist trading cards or thin cardboard cut to 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″.  I used blank cardboard artist trading cards (found at craft shops).
  • Decorative red ribbon
  • Miniature dyed clothespins (located sometimes in the kids craft area at a craft store– buy a multicolored pack if that is the only option for getting red ones)
  • Decorative papers with Valentines Day themes or colors
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Directions to Make Valentines Day Garland:

  1. Decide how many cards you want on your garland– choose a smaller number for a smaller space or choose several for a longer area.
  2. Cut rectangles out of the patterned paper at a size of 2″ x 3″.
  3. Glue the patterned rectangles into the center of the artist trading cards or cardboard.
  4. Next, choose a patterned or plain paper to make hearts.  Cut out heart shapes of similar size.
  5. Glue the hearts onto the center of each of your cards.
  6. Allow the glue to dry.
  7. Line the cards up on a table or flat surface.
  8. Cut a strand of ribbon which is longer than your chain of cards.
  9. If you bought a multicolored  pack of clothespins, pick out the red ones.
  10. Lay the ribbon over the line of cards and then use your miniature clothespins to pin the ribbon onto the cards.
  11. You can hang your garland using tacks.
  12. Trim excess ribbon if needed.
