Easter Crafts | Pastel Wooden Eggs in Easter Boxes

It’s hard to believe that Easter is right around the corner with all this snow still lingering in New England. Easter crafts add a pop of color and cheer to any room or table, and this project for Easter boxes filled with wooden eggs plays up pastel spring colors and vintage inspired images.

Materials for Easter Boxes

• A paper mache box
• Easter grass to put in the box
• 2-3 wooden eggs that will fit in the box
• Acrylic paints in white and pastel colors
• Vintage Easter images (can be downloaded from internet, stickers, or cut out from paper)
• Mod Podge
• Paintbrush
• Wax or parchment paper
• Fine sandpaper

Directions for Easter Boxes

• Paint the inside of the box one color.
• Paint the inside of the lid a different color than the box.
• Place the box and lid on wax or parchment paper to dry.
• Turn the lid and box over and finish painting them in the same colors you used previously.
• Place them back on the paper to dry.
• Lightly sand the wooden eggs so that they are smooth.  Wipe the eggs with a cloth to remove any dust.
• Paint each of the eggs a different pastel colors from each other.
• Place the eggs on the paper to dry.
• For the next step you will need white acrylic paint and a dry paintbrush.  Lightly dip the paintbrush in white paint and blot it a few times on scrap paper until there is very little paint on the brush.  Then gently blot the eggs with the white paint to create a mottled pattern.  Do this to all of the eggs.
• Allow the eggs to dry.
• Apply your vintage Easter images to the eggs using Mod Podge.  Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge on the egg where you want the image to go.  Place the image on the Mod Podge and then brush a thin layer of Mod Podge over the image.  If there are any bubbles in the image you can use the paintbrush to flatten the image.
• Allow eggs to dry and then apply one more coat of Mod Podge to seal the egg.
• If you like you can also add another Easter image to the box lid.  Use Mod Podge to attach the image to the box lid.  Seal over the image with another layer of Mod Podge.
