Get Rid of Moles

Moles are destructive pests that can damage ornamental plants as they burrow underground in search of grubs. Try these techniques to protect your plants and lawn and get rid of moles. One way to control the moles is to treat your lawn with a grub control agent (available at garden supply stores). If you take away the mole’s food supply, it will move on — get rid of the grubs and you’ll get rid of the moles. To drive away moles, dip an ear of corn in roofing tar (available at roofing supply stores) and place it in the animal’s tunnel. They don’t like the smell of tar, and you’ll block their run. If the tar doesn’t work to deter them from tunneling around your lawn, try sprinkling red pepper in their tunnel entrances. Stick an empty soda bottle upside down and at a slight angle in the entrance of the mole’s tunnels. The moles won’t like the vibrations the bottle makes and will move on. Another way to get rid of moles is to spray the ground above their tunnels with castor oil, which is available in spray-top canisters at garden centers. Moles don’t like the taste of castor oil, and they don’t like the feel of it on their fur. If you can’t get rid of moles completely, discourage them from eating your tulip bulbs by placing a ring of gravel around them.
