Maine Blueberry “Fribble”
This variation on the Friendly’s signature milkshake is a signature summer favorite at Vida Cantina in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. A simple homemade frozen milk base is blended with fresh berries to produce the perfect Maine Blueberry “Fribble.”

Photo Credit : Katherine KeenanThe Vida Cantina building still bears traces of the Friendly’s restaurant that once inhabited it. This variation on the Fribble, Friendly’s signature milkshake, often appears on the summer dessert menu. Its unique texture comes from making a simple homemade frozen milk base, then blending that with fresh berries.

Yield:
4 servingsIngredients
4 cups whole milk
1 cup granulated sugar
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
1 ½ cups wild blueberries, fresh or frozen
Pinch salt (optional)
Instructions
Whisk milk, sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl until sugar dissolves. Pour into an ice cream maker and chill according to package instructions until frozen. Pour the frozen ice milk into a blender with the blueberries and pulse until combined.
Can you just freeze the milk, sugar and vanilla and then place in a blender?
They don’t make this anymore at Vida Cantina
Blueberries my favorite, gotta try one of this.
I don’t have an ice cream maker.
Looks great- will try it but cut waaaaaaaay back on the sugar!
It looks like this is just basically vanilla ice cream and blueberries so could be made without an ice cream maker. But I am definitely going to try this the next time I make ice cream!
The Fribble taste and feel is with ice milk, not ice cream. I suspect ice cream will be fine, but it is NOT a “Fribble” clone.
Too much sugar!!!!
Same question as Thomas. Can you just freeze milk, sugar and vanilla and then place in Blender? Also can you use sugar substitutes (like Equal, stevia, etc. land still get same result.?
Pretty skimpy on the sugar, but other than that, nuttin will cool Ya down better.
