  1. We can walk to and are regulars at Elsmere in South Portland. Their ribs and wings are great. Their nachos, while not traditional, are about the best in Greater Portland. All of this said, there is at least one slightly better BBQ place in Maine….It’s Spring Creek Bar-B-Q in Monson, Maine. They have, simply, the best ribs we’ve ever had.

  2. ….Hey Mike….as any KCBS judge will tell you….’fallin’ off the bone’ means over cooked and wouldn’t even get an average score….but would get a comment card

  3. Apparently Bears BBQ wasn’t sampled as it blows away the small portions at the Stand. Their pricing to meat ratio is pitiful.

  4. I started going to Curtis’ in the 70’s when a 1/2 BBQ chicken cost $3.25. Unfortunately Curtis’ has gone downhill in the last 10 years. It’s been 5 or 6 years since the last time I was there. At that time you could not buy a rack of ribs, if you ordered a rack you got a bunch of ribs already cut up, same with with the half rack. The last time I ate ribs there they were tough and chewy and hardly worth the trip from to Vermont from Western Massachusetts. Bears has become my favorite BBQ joint and it’s a lot closer than Curtis’.

  5. I wish they had these barbecue places when I was living in Massachusetts 40 plus years ago. Speaking of old, do they still have any Pewter Pot Muffin Houses in Massachusetts or any at all?
