Rosaly Bass

Annie Card

Rosaly Bass’s strong hands have seen 35 years of working these 16 acres of rocky soil — the oldest certified organic farm in the state. She’ll harvest as much as 10,000 pounds of tomatoes for her farm stand this season, plus kale, cucumbers, squashes, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, eggplants, flowers, and lots more. And she’ll sell 100 pounds of her mesclun mix a week. It’s gorgeous and tasty, she says, with ‘Red Giant’, arugula, tatsoi, mizuna, and baby lettuces. “Farming is a magical way to make a living,” she smiles. “It’s a way of life.”

Rosaly’s Organic Garden, 25 Elm Hill Road/Route 123. 603-924-7774.

No need for reply. I was only looking at places to list on facebook as having visited and thought of NH, googled it and up pops the garden. Again, just visiting a recollection of a garden of maybe 40sq meters at a side of the house. Happily, the adjacent field is apparently being put to good use. I wonder if the stone “fence” remains, Charlie’s Model T, …. the rock with garnets, …. status of Top Side & the pond and if the beavers are keeping their world appropriately, … blueberries still growing at the front door as well as over the ridge,…
