How about this: your own cottage on the Maine coast, complete with sailboats, kayaks, a saltwater pool, a fitness center, a golf course, tennis courts, a bowling alley, a pool table, hiking trails, gardens, and a camp for your children to enjoy when you’re out antiquing.
That’s what the Sebasco Harbor Resort is offering with four of its freestanding cottages, scattered about its 575 oceanfront acres. Three have already been sold. The fourth, the Captain’s Cottage, will go on sale this month. The cottages are located on the Phippsburg Peninsula in Casco Bay, about an hour’s drive from Portland.
“We’re selling the cottages to invest the proceeds back into the main resort,” says Bob Smith, owner of Sebasco. “Captain’s Cottage is one of the most popular with guests because it has shore frontage. From its screened-in porch, you can see all the way to Spain.”
The new owners will receive free Cottage Club membership for two years, which allows them to use the resort’s facilities, including the saltwater pool (Maine’s largest). They can sign for food and beverages at the resort’s restaurants. Sebasco Harbor Resort Golf Club will waive the initiation fee for membership. Moorings are available for an additional cost.
Captain’s Cottage was built in 1938 by resort founder Nate Cushman for his friend Captain Conger, who worked at the Bath Iron Works when the facility was building ships for the Navy. The captain summered here for the next 24 years. The two-bedroom, one-bath cottage, which sits on one acre, has been recently renovated. The living room and bedrooms were redecorated in 2003, and the bathroom and kitchen were updated last year. The original pine floors have been restored, and there is a working fieldstone fireplace.
The cottage is fully furnished. If the buyer wishes to place the property in the resort’s rental pool, he or she may keep the cottage’s furnishings (otherwise, furnishings are negotiable). A third bedroom and second bath can be added to the structure.
Sebasco is in its 77th year of catering to guests. It has its own village green, complete with a croquet court and a gazebo that offers free Wi-Fi for those who want to use their computer while enjoying the outdoors. The resort has 132 accommodations in a number of locations (including cottages, the Main Lodge, the Lighthouse, and Family and Harbor Village Suites) and several dining options.
Captain’s Cottage at Sebasco Harbor Resort is priced at $669,000. For more information, call 207-389-1161 or visit sebasco.com
