Christmas Morn French Bread


  • 6 slices Firm bread (we like sourdough)
  • 5 Eggs
  • 1-1/2 cup Milk
  • 2 t Vanilla
  • 1 t Cinnamon
  • 1/4 t Nutmeg
  • Topping:
  • 4 T Butter
  • 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Walnuts


Grease 12 x 7 pan. Lay bread in pan, cutting if necessary to fill spaces. Beat eggs in a large bowl. Beat in milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Christmas Morning:
Combine topping ingredients, and hold at room temperature until ready to bake.
Heat oven to 350
Spread topping over bread. Bake 4o minutes, or until puffed and golden. Let sit 10 minutes before cutting. Serve with maple syrup.
